There I was trying to record my first Vlog after crossing the border, and what happens? I suddenly see on my screen a tall man standing behind me grinning from ear to ear. I turn around and find it is Ranger Ali. We both laugh, I abandon my Vlog and we chat.

He's curious and asks questions. I answer and joke :

"You are a bit far from home aren't you?"

"What do you mean" he asks?

"Well you are not a Punjabi?"

"How do you know?"

"From your accent," I say.

He tries to speak in Punjabi. Still doesn't convince me. "You are a Pushtoon," I respond. Not a fan of Punjabis whom he considers the worst chauvinists and arrogant loudmouths, he is pleased I hadn't called him a Pathan, a term Pushtoons hate. I tell him I have Pushtoon friends. Later as we wait he offers me tea after which we bid fond farewell to each other.

What a wonderful start to my Pakistani odyssey!
